Mouth

I rode almost all the way to the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon today. I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to ride up that canyon. I've worried about hitting cyclists when I've been in a car going down and around canyon curves.  Cloudy day here in SLC. I'm hoping for rain.

Ride Four

I love where I live.
It's a progressive place.
Out with the old.
 In with the new.

Dollar Ring

My son made this ring out of a dollar bill this afternoon.
He enjoys origami and finds all kinds of things online that he's brave enough to make.

Happy Contrails

Today was ride #3 with the new bike.
Yes, I received a happy surprise for my birthday last month.
I'm not sure what took me so long to get on it, but I'm glad I'm back to riding.
I feel better already.

West Valley Sky

Volunteer

I planted two cherry tomato plants last year and they came up again this year. This one isn't even all the way ripe. Volunteers are great.

Not a Painter

I wanted a large painting (4ft. by 5 ft.) to cover most of the stone fireplace. Covering it with a painting seemed easier than removing the stone.
The idea of creating something abstract didn't sound too difficult.
But ideas are often much easier than realities.
I planned to make a background and then paint circles and spirals on top.
So I bought painters' fabric and got out my acrylic craft paints.
I didn't intend to reminisce about my days in the Caribbean.
Practically on its own, the painting morphed.
Some things are easy to forget. Some aren't.
I swam with sea turtles. I experienced the blue blue sea and white sandy beaches.
My dad, who recently spent two years in the Caribbean, saw the unfinished product and said, "You need a sea turtle."
That's when I realized my circles and spirals weren't going to work.
That's when I realized what I painted.
So I surrendered.  My son and I printed off images of sea life and decopaged them onto the painting.
The whole project was difficult but satisfying.
I'm not a trained artist. Most of the time, I didn't know what I was doing.
I did it anyway. When you know what you really want,
sometimes you have to put fear aside.
Sometimes that's the only way to get to where you want to go.
Even if sometimes you don't realize where you want to go.

Watermelon Yum

I'm probably the only one in my immediate family that likes watermelon beyond just tolerating it. If I buy a regular big melon, I end up having to freeze most it. I just can't eat it fast enough while it's fresh. Did you know frozen watermelon cubes help make yummy smoothies? So to solve the quantity problem, I bought a mini-seedless watermelon. It was just the right size.
I stuck a knife in the middle, cut a zig-zag line through it, and pulled the thing apart. Then I used the melon-baller and scraped out the innards. They made two cute little melon bowls that added happy color to our dinner this evening.
