Sing of Spring

I was uploading these. She was looking over my shoulder.

"Where did you see those flowers?" she asked.

"The front yard."

"Really? I guess it is almost spring."

Instead of Writing

I watched this little squirrel scamper and leap across the top of our fence between one neighbor's shed and another neighbor's walnut tree at least fifty times. It runs the same route over and over again.
Eventually, it took a break to perch in the very top of a tree near the shed and chattered like a maniac while flipping its tail up and down and back and forth. I thought it might be announcing its nut-gathering success and was trying to attract a mate. Then I did a little research and found out squirrels make a different sound when they are mating. There must have been a predator (like a cat) nearby and the squirrel was just defending itself and its territory. Supposedly, cats like the surprise of the hunt and will frequently find different prey when this kind of chattering begins.
Now it's quiet and back to running nuts again.

Heaven and Earth

Sunshine and new snow so bright I could barely open my eyes.
I squinted and let the camera see.

Winter Wheeler

"Action!" has been the best word of the year. I've accomplished more I've set out to do and faced more fears this January than all past ones I remember.

Sometimes I've felt like a one-legged goose, but that's okay. This goose really has two legs, but at first I didn't see the other one tucked up in its feathers. It was a cold morning out at Wheeler Farm.

Some of the ice on the sidewalks reminded me of lace.

Tons of geese and ducks at the farm today. Funny how the geese stay separate. They looked like they were supervising the ducks.
Many sidewalks were pure ice, but it was easy to find a way around.
Walking at the farm is much more entertaining than walking on the treadmill.

Happy New Year!

I am contemplating my word for the new year.
Words related to courage have dominated in the past.
"Boldness" and "Audacious" were top contenders for this year,
but today they don't feel completely right.
My 2013 word was "be." The year was full of avoidance and endurance.
I didn't want to confront, commit, or schedule.
This year I'd like to actually do things, to act more positively.
So tonight, I'm thinking a good word might be "action!"

Merry Christmas

Our Stake's live nativity was last night.
At one point, the baby started crying.
Both parents were clearly hands on, but it moved me in a heart-felt way
when the daddy picked up the child, held him close, and rocked him to comfort him.
I imagine there were times when Joseph comforted baby Jesus.
This Christmas season, I'm thankful for loving fathers
Both on earth and in heaven.
