My youngest daughter and I intended to read our books at Wheeler Farm last Thursday afternoon. When we arrived, we discovered the farm was nearly deserted. It was a hot day. We decided we'd read at each shady spot for about fifteen minutes, then walk to the next reading spot.

We started in the smaller parking lot. As you face east, you turn left and then walk clockwise around the farm. The first spot is just to the left of the road as the road turns toward the mountains. After reading there, you detour through the area where there are farm animals, cross the bridge, and then continue clockwise around the perimeter of the wild area. You will see each of the other reading spots along the way.

Where the creek is a pond, instead of crossing the bridge back to toward the big parking lot, you continue up and down the path to the picnic area by the big old tree. That was our last reading spot for the day. We could have read in the big picnic area for an additional reading spot, but we were ready to go home.

It was cooler in the shade. There was a slight breeze. It was so quiet. It was perfect.
